A city roof terrace, Hampstead, Bowles & Wyer Bowles & Wyer Balcon, Veranda & Terrasse modernes

A cedar pergola in the centre of the terrace creates a simple but stylish division of space and provides areas of enclosure. Horizontal slatted contemporary trellis panels close off sections within the main structure of the pergola, leaving framed views of the London skyline. Bespoke timber containers with integral trellis panels, and matching trellis running the length of the boundary wall, reinforce the sense of rhythm and continuity.

The surface materials help to define the three rooms and give each space its own identity; a Balau deck under the pergola and Caithness stone slabs in the lounge area and on the sun terrace.

The focal point of the lounge area is a wall mounted water feature, consisting of a black stainless steel ‘wall’ with water flowing down it into an asymmetric trough below.

The terrace comes into its own at night with a sophisticated lighting scheme including a cluster of subtle LED uplighters in and around the lounge area, and highlighting the main axis.
