Located just off Caledonian Road, Woodland House occupies a site that faces onto both Market Road Gardens, a quiet local park across the road, and Caledonian Park to the west. The brief sought to refresh the tired social space on the ground floor and invite proposals for the re-use of a vacant retail space on the front elevation that had never been occupied.
The response to the brief was a redesign of the ground floor that incorporated the vacant unit by linking through to the existing social space behind. The opening up of the front facade allowed for visual connection to the gardens opposite, and the introduction of natural light to the enlarged amenity space.
Reorganisation of the facilities allowed for Woodland House to establish a presence on Market Road and the provision of a concierge desk, cinema, gaming room, gym, art studio and study rooms. Polished plaster combines with rough timber, tweed and distressed leather to offer a mix of textured environments and the variety of loose chairs and fixing seating booths offers a range of opportunities for interaction of the residents.
