An apartment in a centenary building, in a historic neighborhood of Lisbon. The renovation sought to give comfort to the apartment, transforming it into a modern two-bedroom unit. Part of the work is now invisible, for it consisted in the structural consolidation of the wooden beams in the most fragile areas through the reinforcement with lightweight steel beams, and also in the introduction of thermal and acoustic insulation in the weak points: floors, ceilings and windows; the thick external walls already have a good performance.
The partitioning suffered minor adjustments, in order to eliminate redundant circulation zones, thus increasing the useful floor area in each space. Some of the original partitioning was replaced and the separation between a former interior bedroom and the main bedroom was reduced, creating an open communication between them. All the doors, cabinets and much of the furniture were designed specifically for this project. All the lighting was also carefully planned for this specific case.
