Do you ever find yourself stuck when it come to decorating your living room? It is harder than it looks, and it is also super important, because it is, after all, where we live, entertain and usually eat.

But getting it right should not be so difficult, and this is why we at homify have put together a list of 23 normal living rooms – small to medium-sized, that is – that have been made great by using simple decoration techniques, from paint to rugs to lamps and ottomans, and in several styles so one (or five!) are sure to catch your eye. Have a look!

1. Mirror, mirror

The use of mirrors of various shapes along the back wooden wall, the beautiful flower centrepiece and the wonky-shaped wall sculptures are spectacular decorative finishes that really make this room.

2. Jungle wall

This smaller living room space has mainly been really spiced up with an accent wall of a stencilled jungle theme. Next, kudos goes to the eclectic, yellow wooden chair and fluffy white-cushioned stool. What delightful decor!

3. 1930's style

homify Salon original

This design arrangement has been inspired by 1930's interior aesthetics. Circular mirrors are paired with understated plants and flowers that combine with the green geometric carpet for an ultra sophisticated and comfy space.

4. Pump up the colour

A normal living room that has been turned way extraordinary with deep, rich-coloured adornments, like a dark purple faux-bear skin rug, a bright red wood coffee table, door and two old Victorian chairs. The two people-sized vases are things seemingly straight from an ancient, grand civilisation, making this otherwise average living room simply spectacular.

5. Photo wall

Putting as many of your favourite art or photographs into high-quality frames and smashing them together on one wall is one of the surest ways to decorate any room in style, and this room has nailed it!

6. The tree that cats like

homify Salon moderne

A little unconventional, but totally functional, this high-quality cat and book tree has been built into this simple living room, making it totally decorous.

7. Modern colour

This room has blasts of colour that are all really modern and delicious. A bright blue couch is set off by the dark grey, slightly smudged wall, and a gilded grey mirror reflects the other, bright teil wall. From the coffee table to the paintings, vases and sculpture, this room looks like it could have been in a Rohmer film – so romantic!

8. Hexagonal tiles

Obviously, the central decorous piece is the partition wall's completely unique hexagonal tile motif. Combined with a simple bookshelf, lanky hanging lamps, geometric rug and fruity flowers, this super small living area goes a long way with it's decoration.

9. Green minimalism

Decorations in this room basically follow a minimalist aesthetic but the use of plants is worthy of note – several well-cared for plants occupy the corner, green, green, green! One has even been strung along the ceiling, creating a lush half-frame between the study and the living area.

10. Mediterranean decor

Simple and clean, a grey-white ottoman has a mirrored tray set upon it with elegant candle and flower vases, which match the butterfly pictures and semi-retro table lamp.

11. Fresh and clean

This fresh and clean mediterranean design offers a pure white backdrop accented by striped pillows, cushions, rugs and blankets of warm-coloured stripes. An all-white wooden ladder tops it off.

12. Bright leaf light

Here we have a bright turquoise accent wall that matches the little, 3-level coffee table, large cushy chair cushions and a fabulously curvacious, gold and silver leaf sculpture on the wall.

13. Empty frames

Empty photo frames, a retro birdcage and a white, half-moon lamp make for a delightfully flamboyant decoration scheme!

14. Grass on a wall

If you have never seen large ferns used to decorated nearly a whole wall, now you have. And it really works – what an effect!

15. Sticks and trees

Casa Litoral Norte SP - "Alma Caiçara", AMMA PROJETOS AMMA PROJETOS Salon méditerranéen

This small living area has been made really grand with two large single palms that act as a frame for the central hanging wood pile, all of which is flanked by a street lamp-esque corner lamp.

16. Train station clock

homify Salon industriel

We love this room because of the busy walls, antlers, mismatched blankets and, most of all, the glass partition wall and the central train station clock.

17. OK

MM apartment, Studio ro+ca Studio ro+ca Salon industriel

This is a really hip use of a small living space. A large neon sign tops off the funky modern paintings and seven styled coffee table.

18. Wood wall

When in doubt, build a wood slab above your couch -- it is cheap, super DIY and really warm-looking!

19. Suitcase wall

homify Salon industriel

Ever wonder what to do with your old suitcases? Or maybe your family and friends have too many you could use to make your very own suitcase wall – industrial decor at its finest!

20. Retro ecclectic

Casa Cor RJ - 2014, Studio ro+ca Studio ro+ca Salon industriel

Again, a mash up of framed photos bring the wood wall round while the arched ceiling lights warm this living space up. A big bulb-lit 'A' stands strong in the corner next to bushy, lipstick red flowers. We are not sure what is happening, but we like it.

21. Smudgy walls

homify Salon industriel

At a loss for several hip objects to use to decorate your space? That is fine, just smudge your walls in this fashion with your favourite colour. Paint, smudge, wash, smudge and repeat --remarkable!

22. Colonial chic

homify Salon colonial

In all other respects this room is quite normal, medium-sized, hexagonal in a style many around the world have themselves. However, it has been made quite outstanding, in the colonial style, with African art, animal skin pillow cases and lamps, throw blankets and a wall-sized elephant mural. A real jumanji!

23. Feminine country style

Lastly, we have a classic in feminine country style decor. A dainty white wooden coffee table, packed with pastel polka-dotted pillows to match the ones on the sofa, which, in turn, match the armchair, and oh, that matches the pictures on the wall, which match the beautiful peach curtains!

Hopefully, you have found a kind of decor that tickles your fancy on this list. Want to see some amazing, achievable bathrooms? Check out these small designs!
